SYNOPSIS: The summer of the new millennium was the best of Ren-jie’s young life—it was when he met Xiao-ping and spent the languid, sunny months walking hand in hand with her, writing the opening lines of his life’s poem. While a young adult, Ren-jie’s father takes his own life, and Ren-jie is forced to repay a loan his father borrowed from a gangster. After Ren-jie is discharged from the air force, he tries to resume a normal life with Xiao-ping, who just wants to get married, live in a nice home and have kids. However, it quickly becomes clear that the pressures of poverty, Ren-jie’s job and their long-distance relationship have strained their relationship. When they are finally reunited, how would they write the last verse of their life together?
